Bike to Work Week 2008

Bike to Work 2008

Active commuting improves fitness, saves money, and is kind to the environment.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE SPONSORS, AND PARTICIPANTS THAT MADE OUR 1st ANUAL BIKE TO WORK WEEK A GREAT SUCCESS

May 12-16, 2008.

We have teamed up with the Chautauqua County Healthy Heart Program, Labyrinth Press Coffee Shop, Jamestown-Lakewood YMCA, Bush Industries Factory Outlet, Chautauqua Institution, The Clarion Hotel, Nestle-Purina, The Spoke Folk Project of SUNY Fredonia Community Partnership, and other local sponsors.

Bike to work week brought together 119 persons, logging in over 3,300 combined miles.

Congratulations to ALL of you who commuted by bike during Bike to Work Week 2008.  We hope that you continue riding to work this summer, and get a friend to join you!  Encourage your employer to install a bike rack (info and prices from Jamestown Advanced will be sent to your coordinator soon).  Help to advocate for bike lanes and safer cycling, and Ride On!
We had some very impressive results:
  • 119 riders logged 3359.4 miles during the week.
  • The average weekly mileage was 28.2 miles
  • 23 people commuted at least one way each day of Bike to Work Week!
The groups with the highest numbers of participants were:
Large (>300):
  • Cummins Engine - 18 riders
  • Nestle Purina - 15 riders
  • Cliffstar - 9 riders
Small (<300):
  • Hope's Windows - 9 riders
  • SWCS - 8 riders
  • Team Hollyloft - 7 riders
Note: Many small workplaces had a larger percentage of their employees riding!
Top Weekly Mileage:
  • Nancy White, Team Hollyloft - 283.4 miles
  • Kris Meekins, Cummins Engine - 208 miles
  • David Boyd, Anderson Precision - 193.5 miles
